Three European Film Awards for Production Design, Costumes and Hair & Make-Up for Film i Väst’s co-productions

The European Film Academy announced yesterday the first winners who will be honoured at this year’s European Film Awards. Three of them worked on films co-produced by Film i Väst:
Josefin Åsberg, European Production Designer 2017, Katarzyna Lewińska, European Costume Designer 2017 and Leendert van Nimwegen, European Hair & Make-up Artist 2017.

A special seven-member jury convened in Berlin and, based on the EFA Selection list and the additional film entries, decided on the winners. The 6th of December the European Film Award Gala will be held in Berlin.

Josefin Åsberg has worked as Production Designer on Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winner The Square. Earlier this year she was awarded with Le Prix Vulcain de l’Artiste Technicien 2017. The Square was in part shot in Göteborg and produced by Erik Hemmendorff and Philippe Bober.

”With great artistic sensibility, the production design in THE SQUARE elevates the film by creating a world at the edge to the surreal. In this way the scenography is able to integrate and interact with the story without ever dominating over it. This is the great artistic quality of Josefin Åsberg.

Katarzyna Lewińska was Costume Designer on Agnieszka Holland’s Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize winner at the Berlinale, Spoor. Post produced by Chimney Group (Fredrik Zander) in Göteborg.

The simplicity and clarity of the costumes intensify the images and underline the substantial message of the film. The clash between the human element and the natural environment is reflected in the texture, the colours and the design of the costumes, at the same time contributing to the personality of the characters and giving them life. They form an integral part of the storytelling, along with all the other visual elements, and together they create a powerful viewing experience.”

Leendert van Nimwegen, Hair & Make-up Artist, on Martin Koolhovens Brimstone, nominated for a Golden Lion in Venice 2016. Co-produced by Peter Hiltunen, Dragon Films.

“In BRIMSTONE, Leendert van Nimwegen, with make-up and hair, helps the characters and their development throughout the film, from play- and colourful, to sober and sinister, the good, the bad, the young, the old. It is a perfect combination of hair and make-up to describe characters, so beautifully done, and making them real.”
